“FLUTTER”FLY”
Butterfly Arms and Flutter Kick
This is one of my favorites as it helps work on head position and isolates the arm work without having to consider how timing of the dolphin kick fits in.
How to do it?
Body position
Body stays close to the surface at all times
Chin stays just above the surface of the water when breathing
Maintain a straight line
The Movement
less undulation because of flutter kick instead of dolphin kick
consistent strong flutter kick throughout the drill
strong recovery reinforces a more aggressive forward motion with arms and head.
Skate along the surface with your arms
Chin leads the stroke and head drops down quickly after the breath.
Focus:
Breathe right at the surface
“soft hands” as you enter the water after the recovery
Maintain a line with your spine
What does it improve?
Improves body line because of less up and down motion
Promotes strong recovery
Promotes a high stroke rate
Promotes a lower breathing position
Improves flutter kick
