Family Memory (XXVIII): The Kite
it’s probably the first thing I really remember. Since it was from the house on Boies in Davenport, it means it would’ve been when I was 2 though whether that was JUL/AUG of 1970 or MAY until JUN 13th of 1971.
What I remember was going to the nearby park–it may have been the schoolyard nearby…that I don’t remember–and flying a kite with my dad and Uncle Mike. My memory tells me it was sunny, that there was a breeze. And…that’s it. I have no other memory of it at all. I can tell you it means my dad would’ve been 30, my Uncle Mike 13 or 14.
I find myself wondering what they would remember of that day–did they have fun? Was my Uncle Mike there for a few days? When he was 17-19, he came and worked for my dad during the summer, but I don’t know about anything before that though he was always close with my mom.
The house on Boies was small, so much smaller than the one on Marquette which was immense–still is. (The blog image)
Funny though where memory actually starts, what sticks, and what time erases.
