Faan se Trein (2014)

Director: Koos Roets

Starring: Willie Esterhuizen, Anel Alexander, Deon Lotz, Nicola Hanekom, Marius Weyers, Cobus Rossouw

Faan (Willie Esterhuizen) lives in a small Karoo town with his father, and his housekeeper, Truia (Anel Alexander). He’s a little slow and a little confused a lot of the time, but for the most part he’s harmless, except when he’s being teased by the local school boys, which seems to be happening more and more frequently.

Willie Esterhuizen, known for slapstick comedy, is brilliant in a serious role. The entire cast is great and very convincing, but special mention has to go to Willie Esterhuizen and Nicola Hanekom. This is an all-round top notch production and also one of the most awarded Afrikaans films of all time. ‘Faan se Trein’ won for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Script, Best Cinematography, Best Sound Design and Best Editing.
