Eyes of Fire (Aka Cry Blue Sky) (1983)

Director: Avery Crounse
Starring: Dennis Lipscomb, Guy Boyd, Rebecca Stanley
A preacher is accused of adultery, and he and his followers are chased out of town. They become stranded in an isolated forest, which is haunted by the spirits of long dead Native Americans.
Christians from the 19th Century were weird people; gullible and conservative. They were prepared to hang a preacher for being suspected of adultery. We need to ask ourselves then who the real evil is here….
That aside, these things happened in centuries gone by. In ‘Eyes of Fire’ the preacher, his family and a handful of his followers leave town in search of the promised land. Among them is a witch named Leah, whom the preacher adopted as a child. I didn’t always understand this character and wasn’t sure whether she was good or bad. I must be honest, I had a difficult time following and understanding the first few minutes of the film, as the narrative was rather strange.
The film got direction once they reached the spot they presumed to be the promised land. They were joined by Marion Dalton – another character I was unsure of where he came from, or who he really was. Along the way they were being pursued by Indians, but it soon became evident they had a bigger problem: the ‘promised land’ was found to be haunted. Soon strange things started happening. Some of the visual effects were really good, and rather creepy.
This supernatural Western horror gets rather bizarre during the final act. This is a most unusual and weird movie. The film is being narrated by a child, Meg, and a young woman, Fanny.
Honestly; I don’t think I’m going to remember this film.
Would I watch it again? No.
