Experimenting with Oils & Easel Filming

Hi friends! I have wanted to post tutorials filmed at my easel for a while now, but couldn’t figure out a good setup until now. I wasn’t sure if it would work to have my palette vertical, but it worked fine.

I moved my A-Frame Easel into the “Room of Hoard” and brought in my French Easel because I have more flexibility with the angle I can tilt it and the height I can raise the canvas. I think I found a good solution for filming pastel and oil painting tutorials. You can see the time-lapse of my maiden voyage with this setup below. If you want a real-time tutorial for this project, you can find it now in Critique Club.
Supplies (Affiliate links used)
Water-mixable oil paint (traditional oils, acrylic, or gouache can also be used)
Assorted brushes
*I sketched with water-soluble oil paint sticks, but you can use a brush and paint just fine. Here are the sticks if you are interested
*This is the French easel I mentioned with wheels and a telescoping handle. I am trying this for plein air, but the one I am using today I have had for 30 years.

I hope you enjoy this timelapse, and if you want the long version, I hope you check it out in Critique Club where you also get access to 150+ real-time tutorials, creative prompts, and the ability to get feedback from me for only $7.50 a month. That’s all for today. Happy crafting!
