Editing: Slow Motion Effect

In order to complete my video sequence, I attempted to put some of my ‘throwaway’ shots in a slow-motion effect. To do this, I enlisted the help of an online video which helped me learn how to achieve the desired slow-motion effect, and also helped to broaden my skills in Premier Pro.

To achieve the desired effect, I right-clicked each of the video files in my timeline and selected ‘Speed/Duration’ from the context menu. A window the appeared in which I needed to enter the desired speed (slower than 100%) to slow down the video. I decreased the speed percentage of each clip to around 50% in order to best achieve the desired slow motion effect.

Overall, I think that the slow motion effect adds to the sense of emotion within the song.

I decided to apply a slow motion effect to these clips as I believed that it would add to the emotional themes of the song; the effect can make a scene appear more dramatic and atmospheric. I also employed the effect for aesthetic purposes; it allows the viewer to see the emotive performance of my model.

I believe that this effect is appropriate for my target audience as it relates to the narrative of insecurity, something which many members of my target audience will have faced. Equally, I think the effect adds a higher sense of professionalism to the video which would the consumer would appreciate.
