Eaton Street Grill, Key West, Florida
After our late afternoon lunch at Salute! before seeing off Liza, Michael, and the girls, we old – make that “Golden” folks decided on a light dinner, and simply split lobster rolls from the Eaton Street Grill. I’d been eager to try Eaton Street despite a cautious review in Dining with Frankie. Early on this trip I fairly swooned over the grouper from Eaton Street Michael had cooked for dinner one night (Michael really is an excellent chef), and Sue had commented that they serve the best lobster rolls in Key West. (She is from New Orleans and is also a wonderful cook, so she has high food credibility.)
Here’s my half of a lobster roll.

Doesn’t that look good? Isn’t that a lot of lobster meat? The grilled roll certainly couldn’t contain it.
The lobster rolls came with plantain chips, which I skipped. And as you may have noticed from my photo, the bag also contained an order of onion rings. They were good, despite the trip, with a well cooked onion center and a crust that held up pretty well. I recommend them.
I recommend the lobster rolls even more. I usually am outspoken, not to say obnoxious, about eating the local seafood in preference to things shipped in, but rules were made to be broken. The lobsters had enjoyed a recent flight in from the far north, and clearly suffered less from air travel than I do. They were cooked with skill and attention, and lobster meat is, well lobster. Try one.
