Oxymoron

Sunday 10th April 2011 was the day the national league season ended (we lost in the 5th set).  My overwhelming feeling is paradoxical: a sense of emptiness and a sense of relief.  The sense of emptiness relates to that fact that there is no more work to do.  That is it.  It is all done.  What to do with my time now?  The sense of relief has the same reason!  It is the fact that there is no more work to do.  No more laborious collating stats, match reports, scouting reports, coaching plans and the constant travelling to away matches.

Motivational

In the end, I like it this way.  During the season, there is always a push.  Things have to get done and usually within strict deadlines.  For me, it was:

Sunday – Match Monday – Collate Stats and Match Report (so the match is still fresh in players’ minds) Tuesday – Scouting Report (to inform coaching plan) Thursday – Coaching plan and Training Session Saturday – Match Preparations, e.g. revise scouting report, rotation variations, camcorder available etc (to prepare myself as a coach) Sunday – Match

And mirco-cycle starts all over again.  You can continue to push because you knew the end is always within sight, i.e. last match of the season.  Then you can stop and bathe in that carthartic release of a job well done.

Next Season

I would have loved the opportunity to coach Dulwich Tuskers for a second season.  I would have been able to implement the things I learnt during my first season immediately and hit the ground running as it were.  Unfortunately, I am busy (I got my Masters to do remember!)

What Have I Learnt
