Dreams – 5/3

5/3/25 #1: I was at the old Economy Roofing on Dittmer, standing on a raised platform. Dennis Lee (roofer for my dad) was standing behind me with his hands on my shoulders. I saw the Mississippi quickly rising to the west and that there was a giant vortex/whirlpool there draining water like a bathtub. I looked across the street (the old GE building) and saw the Mississippi was running north-south rather than east-west and it was wider than the city but I knew something was wrong because of the direction it flowed. I looked down and saw water creeping up to the cars in front of the building so I wanted to get out of there before we were trapped, but Dennis’ hands kept me frozen in place. 5/3/25 #2: There was an alien invasion. They were shapechangers and their faces would turn to silly-putty if they didn’t concentrate. I sat on a wood chair with round seat near a theater stage with a bunch of other people. Everyone had someone to hold hands with except me. It turns out there was a blond woman who didn’t have a hand-holder, so she put a windbreaker around me so I would stop shivering, then she leaned over and put her head on my knee–though she hadn’t bent over, but I didn’t think her stretching like that was strange at all.

5/3/24: I was standing on the ground near a castle wall when a Chinook appeared in the sky and soldiers started rappelling down. The dream view then cut to a top-down view of the castle and I knew soldiers in the Chinook were shooting targets on the ground with rifles but there were more enemies than they could shoot. I kept hearing a voice (the pilot, I presume) say, “You should have let me have Alligators for this mission!” and then there was a tone like a video game level-up and then on the map/video below, several columns and rows of dots appeared below and wherever the dots were was followed by explosions and then the voice said “See what happens when you turn Alligators loose?”

5/3/23: There was a podium above me with two levels. The first had a bunch of men in black suits. Above them, the Chicago Bears were introducing the “DRAFT COMMITTEE” and five people in robes walked out onto that level. It was lit and staged like something from either ‘1984’ or Riefenstahl’s ‘Triumph of the Will’. The Bears then announced they would play a season in Dieterich, Illinois to help with post-game traffic.

5/3/22: I decided to design a boardgame about nursing homes but was then teleported back in time to the 1950s. I decided to open my own home for severely disabled/catatonic WW1 veterans in my home in rural Illinois. As part of the plan, I would move them from station to station during the day including them playing poker but because they were catatonic, I would make the decisions for them as they sat around the table–in addition to dealing the cards, etc. We always played Texas Hold ‘Em. I decided I would name my business “Love All Their Days” and that when 2020 came around, that would be the name of the boardgame, too.

5/3/21 (all blurred together): I drove with Julie to go see the old Economy Roofing building on Dittmer St. It’s been abandoned now since 1987 or so. I took her down to the end with the loading dock. It was creepy. There was a car there with its passenger door open. I got out to look while Julie turned the car around. There was food in it and bottled water and some books–and I realized it was the home of a grad student–and that scared me. When Julie returned, I stood up on the passenger seat (there was now a sunroof in the car) and kept looking all around to see if I could spot other grad students, telling her to “Go, go, go!” to get out of there because we were in real danger. We needed to get up the street to where the Geifman’s Supermarket used to be because that’s where Baron and Sean had hired go-go dancers for their rave.

We drove up the street but I got distracted and had Julie take a turn instead and it turns out we drove into a Roman “circus”/colosseum where Iowa State was playing Nebraska in football because Nebraska begged back into the Big 8. The field was really wide and I didn’t see an end zone. ISU hiked the ball and Bret Meyer (QB 20 years ago) ran into the line, spun, and broke free…and then I realized the goalposts were a mile down the road. Meyer took off and the field became a regular street and he was having to dodge pedestrians and vendors as Nebraska’s defense yelled “Stop him!”

Meyer spun past a fat guy in an apron and stopped. I waved for him to keep going but he said he stepped on the sidewalk. I kept waving so he ran again into the endzone which was right by the riverfront. There were two teen boys there when he scored who watched it happen. I got out of the car I was now driving and walked with the boys back to where Iowa State would kick off, trying to convince the tall one he’d be great at volleyball.
