Dreams – 3/16
3/16 is always a sad, special day…the day my mom died in 2011 and also her father (Papa) in 1997.
3/16/25: I was on a date with Jenny Johnson and she wanted to go past ‘first base’, so we went to my house which was a stand-alone two story 19th century building. My mom told me not to go so when I went to tell that to Jenny, she stood so close, I couldn’t see any part of her except her forehead–and I realized she was suffering from measles.

I was in the upper deck of a stadium (near the end zone) watching a football game. The game was interrupted by a series of horns–like a train approaching a crossing–but it was a different, extended sound, like the last air oozing from a bagpipe or the sound being played at 2/3 speed. [It is possible a train was coming thru town during the dream…also possible the real train’s horn was not functioning correctly.]

I was driving through France from Spain northwards. I reached a city with a lot of hills and my vehicle struggled to keep moving forward so I started using my legs (a la Flintstones) to make it to the top. My legs got tired, so I started with my arms just as I noticed I was nearing an old theater which was now a rest stop. I also realized my arms were tired because I was actually sitting in a wheelchair. I went into the rest area and was confused at the signs for which was men’s and which was women’s. I finally rolled into the men’s area and there was a big lounge with men AND women but no one was using the toilets because they were chained off as ‘under construction’. I couldn’t understand anyone talking because I was American. I tried to stand but one of the women told me she would help–and I couldn’t explain that I was able to walk–but then she spoke English, saying she was a boardgame designer and that I was in one of her playtest rooms. [She looked like Diane Jensen, a staff member at Ohio State 30 years ago]

I was driving a UPS truck. It was night and I was holding an open package in my hand. It was a big envelope unable to be closed because it was stuff with papers. I looked and saw they were baseball All-Star Game ballots needed to guarantee results were accurate. I was being followed by a car with no headlights on that made me worry I was going to get robbed because maybe all the envelopes in the back contained cash rather than ASG votes.

I was behind a half-pickup, half-conversion van. It wasn’t moving at a light because of my stepfather on a motorcycle. I heard the van driver complaining. When Pete turned left on the bike, I rode up on my bike and talked to the driver and explained Pete was in bad health and dying and that he wanted to ride his motorcycle one last time in good weather. The van driver apologized for getting mad but said, “Really, he’s a bad driver.”

I was in the basement of Cass Gym and there were offices there. I also knew I wasn’t supposed to be there anymore. I tried to find the stairs up and was spotted by the A.D. He started following, suspecting I was me. Upstairs, I ran thru the fitness center and found Kelly W. giving her daughter ice cream. I kept running, got outside, and wound up hiding in an actor’s trailer. When I thought the coast was clear, I crossed the street to my own trailer but stopped when I saw a friend putting his head in the middle of the street (it was dark again for the moment). I tried a few times to stop him but couldn’t and finally went with Julie to my trailer. Some former athletes stopped me and walked in to my trailer. I tried to ignore them in hopes they would go away.

I went to Ames in my old LTD. I was driving on an interstate south of campus trying to reach the Towers (all four were standing). Suddenly, the road ended in a deserted elementary school playground, so I got out and decided to walk from ‘West Ames’ to the Towers. I took a blanket crocheted by my mom (she didn’t know how to crochet, by the way) with me and wrapped it around me like Tom Baker’s Dr. Who’s scarf. I nearly suffocated myself because the blanket weighed 100lbs. I realized the weeds were as tall as me, so I took off the blanket and returned to the car.
Then I drove to the Towers and I pointed out where I lived (7312) in Wallace Hall–and the ‘Lancelot’ sign was still the same–and I pointed that out to my son, Michael, who was suddenly with me in the car. We drove to Friley and the Foster sign on the building was the ‘real’ one from Westgate instead.
