Dreams – 12/30
12/30/24 #1: I was in a bedroom with Julie. I went to go watch TV at 5am but went to the bathroom first. IN the meantime, Erick turned on the TV and had decided to watch something and refused to let me watch baseball. I got furious and stormed off to the bedroom because I was tired of people interfering in our house/not treating me seriously. Erick followed and said he was upset. I tried to hug him but he was two feet taller than me. I noticed he was wearing a green striped shirt like Steve from Blue’s Clues. 12/30/24 #2: I was officiating volleyball in an old gym. It was playoffs–then I noticed I was officiating from the stands. My daughter was next to me and making fun of my calls and I realized I was using a kazoo as a whistle. At the end of the set, I went down a hallway to get my reffing backpack but the room was being used for a class and the teacher kept trying to hipcheck me away from my bag. Once I had it, I had to help a girl crying in the hall. Then I was almost back but I stepped for a moment into the wrong gym. When I got back to my gym, they had already started playing and it was 08-05. People saw me and backed off. Parents were sitting at a conference table smug that they’d outwitted me and I demanded to know where the IHSA governor was and the two coaches because those two were in “an awful lot of trouble.”
12/30/23: I was in a messy bedroom with my wife–but her name was “Kelly Green”. It was messy with toys and Legos. I went to the bed–which was attached to the wall and was going to get romantic with her because I knew she had no clothes on under the sheet at which point I realized she had no body features/had the body of a mannequin. This confused me and then there was noise down the hall and Kelly panicked because these were her parents getting home–Ed and Sue. She left me to clean up the toys while I listened to her suggest to them that they needed to move out of our house to a complex called “Lutheran Willow”.
12/30/22 #1: I was in a balloon contraption assigned to re-affix the flag to the top of the flagpole that went up so that the island below was just a speck. The flag was on a pole that you stuck inside the main flagpole. The flag’s secondary pole was awkward to handle and I almost dropped it, then my balloon almost flew away but I finally got the flag secured with a mix of rubber bands and spider webbing. It was the New Zealand flag. I wasn’t sure how I would get down.
Then I was on the ground and the island was under attack by the Japanese and we only had a few people to defend it. I grabbed paper and tried to draw a Swiss passport. Some people (almost everyone was French) intended to fight to the death and drew up plans with red arrows on them. I then started collecting bits of paper from the ground because I knew I was going to be a POW for a long time–which would give me a chance to design a collectible card game. We all waited but the Japanese never came.
12/30/22 #2: I was in a parent-meeting (as a teacher) in a white room just outside the ballroom at the top of where I went to grade school. I was sitting with three other teachers but no parent was there. We all were ready to leave and walked to the door out to the ballroom. It was after hours, so there were no lights in the ballroom. It was pitch dark. Two teachers went into the ballroom but the third (a woman) grabbed my hand, peeled her shoes off with her toes, and took me into a kitchen that was upstairs–she said there was a secret stairway heading down and “You don’t know what lives in there in the dark.”
12/30/21 #1: I was laying on a two-person mattress next to my grandparents’ living room window in Keokuk. It was daylight. A woman, part of our “crew” decided to lay down next to me but then we had to board an airplane and we were on an attack mission. Things started to go wrong–someone sabotaged the plane. I went to check the pilot and he was trying to put the cigarette lighter back properly–inside the console in front of the controls, facing backwards…so he was leaning on the controls and pushing the plane into a steep dive. I crouched under him and saw why he couldn’t do it–because a Heinz ketchup packet was wedged into the hole…so I figured we were all going to die.
12/30/21 #2: I was at a blackboard teaching “Stats” when a class asked how they were relevant. I mentioned “GAMA” out in DC. They asked who would be there and I said “Every employee in the world except one.” “Which one?” they asked, and I responded, “You know who…” Then I was out in DC in jacket/tie/slacks assigned as security out on the street checking tickets–except there was a new procedure. I didn’t understand the change, so I went inside the Rotunda where a mixer/dance was going on. I ran into “Megan” who recognized me from when I lived in DC in 1988. I said I remembered her–because she was “Amy’s” roommate. She smiled, impressed I remembered. At that point “Kurt Steger” came up [a real person from Iowa State whose name hadn’t been in my mind since 1988] and explained a new ticket process and Megan left. When Steger was done explaining–I still didn’t understand and decided to find Megan again. She asked if I remembered our date on my last night in DC. I lied and said yes. She then said that was the last time she kissed someone because she would only date stat-masters.
