Dreams – 11/4

11/4/24: I was in a clearing with Mme. Mellott (grade school French/Spanish teacher) except she was speaking German and I was being tested on my ability to read a topographical map.

11/4/23 #1: I was in a forest clearing with a big group of parents with their daughters. Everyone was standing on risers facing a campfire. I wanted to be on the risers but no one would make room for me, so I knew they wanted me to go away. When I started walking into the forest, they all started singing a happy song.

11/4/23 #2: I was at a basketball game because I had a crush on someone who would be there. THe girl was there but one of the players kept throwing stuff to her in the crowd–candy, a shirt, then a pillow. I realized she didn’t like me anymore. It didn’t register as odd to me that the bleachers were steer/tall or that the court was actually L-shaped. My team’s coach climbed into the stands and asked me what I knew of the other team since I coached in the same gym as the opponent. I said “Jeff Shafer always says to pound it in the inside.” The coach said, “Coach Shafer’s here.” I saw Shafer sitting next to me. I responded, “Pound it on the inside.” My team was in red and the other team was wearing brown-maroon and had yellow letters on their uniforms.

11/4/22: I was a scavenger in a destroyed city. We were in a car looking for valuable things and the person with me said it would be dangerous if we stopped. So I stopped–and then there was gunfire everywhere. I was swerving left and right around piles of rubble and the other person said, “Told you.” We stopped next to a pair of giant brown hills that looked like they were piles of coffee grounds. There were people on top of the hills from the Teutopolis Sportsbackers. One of them said, “There’s value in these here hills.”

11/4/21: [melancholy dream…] I got out of a car in front of the building where I attended HS because I no longer went there or worked there (undetermined) and I had to return a stack of broken picture frames. The front doors were locked so I needed to find a different way. I walked past two of my former players and after I passed by them I heard them whisper “Bye, Dietz.” A blond boy then guided me to a back set of stairs behind the gym that led down to the patio exit–the boy was Matt Perkins(?) [kid from junior high…it’s the first that name’s popped into my brain in 35+ years…weird].

We went down the stairs and it started to rain. Halfway down, he had to carry some of the pictures because I was starting to limp from a leg injury. When we got to the bottom, he disappeared and I was in a basement with doors facing every-which-way and my wife and family, including in-laws, were there along with Mrs. Loula and Mrs. Seefeldt [my 6th and 1st grade teachers]. There was a siren and a tornado warning. I told Julie to make sure Jaeger was brought downstairs. I looked out the door over the Mississippi and saw a line of blimps moving really fast overhead then saw a straight line of black clouds that was basically pushing the blimps and thought that was exactly how things looked on a weather forecast map with pressure lines drawn. I stepped outside onto the back porch, the door closed, and I heard a non-family female voice whisper, “Bye, Dietz.”
