Dreams – 1/8

I was outside my grade school throwing a beanbag/playing catch when I found myself in a car with Carl Jones (actually Costas) and Lance Ray driving at “Iowa State” except the roads were all torn up and campus buildings weren’t where they were supposed to be. At one point I had to pick my bare feet off the floor because there were chains sticking out from the road that almost caught my foot–and would’ve dragged me from the car. I told Lance and Carl I was naked under a blanket. Carl laughed. Lance refused to look at me. Some time later I noticed I was actually wearing gray sweatpants and removed the blanket that I’d been using to cover me. Carl started clapping and going ‘Woot! Woot! Woot!”

3rd Person–I was at a hockey game when the announcer said there was a game of tag with winners getting $1 million. One group of three fans would be ‘it’ and the others ‘not it’. If they could stay untagged for a year, they won. Each person tagged got ‘it’ $1 million instead. My name got called. I realized I was in an orange Hawaiian shirt, so I took off to the concourse and bought a black souvenir tshirt and then I ran my hand over my face which took away my beard, then I left for the parking lot. I called Julie and told her I’d be back next year. Once outside, I wondered if I should leave the country or just get cash, buy a boat, and sail the Caribbean. Then I was back inside the arena, making my way to the ice because I needed to hit a red button in the middle of the rink to claim my earnings and I was worried the home team had hired snipers to keep me from winning.

It started 3rd person with a sweeping/moving view of super-high poles holding up some sort of gondola system with people lounging on top of the supports. Then I was on one of the rides and it was just stretchy tarp attached by thin wire with knots and I got worried. The gondola reached the top height and there was no place to get off–it turned around to head downwards and then accelerated rapidly with no brakes. I couldn’t jump because there was nothing below me to land on–it was an infinite fall. Then there were trees ahead of me and I was going to hit them when the gondola/ride suddenly yanked upwards and I slowed then stopped like I’d been on a bungie cord.
[This likely comes from watching S1, E2, of HALO last night before bed.]

I was in my room in Friley Hall somewhere. It was silent. I found the RA, “Sonny Liston” who was also the Owens CC volleyball coach–he was moving a bookshelf on wheels into the Lounge where there was already a bunch of furniture. The bookshelf had a fax machine on top of it–and I remembered I needed to send my homework through on it. I asked Sonny, “When did everything become dorms not community-centered?” He pointed out the window and said “By accident, just like when Marie got that built…” There was a brick dorm outside covered in ivy. “And when SBL came to town.” [Sarah Bush Lincoln–a hospital] This made sense to me, so I decided to eat pizza “across from Friley Hall” (the slogan of The Pizza House in Ames…restaurant that was there from 1953-1990)
1/8/2020: I was working as a ‘traveling secretary’ for a rock band. The thing is, rock music was a competitive league with wins and losses. My job was to make sure when the manager called for it, I drove the band van up to the stage with the relief guitarist or keyboard specialist. I got sabotaged on the freeway by a competing band, but it turns out it was because they had traded for the guitarist I was carrying.
I know elements of this dream–having read an article about Santana switching around the vocalists he worked with from album to album…and editing a project that involved the Marco Polo Bridge Incident of 1934.
1/8/2011: I was watching a movie about people playing a game of Settlers of Catan. A sailor behind me stole my cap. It turned out it was Wade Perry (someone I attended grade school with). I told him to give it back or I’d punch him in the gonads. He gave it back and I watched the rest of the movie in peace. It wasn’t a good movie–I regretted not going to the one about barges on the Mississippi instead.
