Dream Pop Letters | “With Love” by Trying
Bedroom Pop Group, Trying, Releases New Single “With Love”
Following their 2018 debut album Leave and Never Come Back, Trying have released new single “With Love,”. The song could easily be imagined as a missing track from that album. Leave and Never Come Back focused in on distance, place, and belonging across 12 dreampop-inflected bedroom productions earning acclaim from a small but tight community of music blogs with The Music Mermaid describing it as “heart music” that “abounds with bubblegum indie jewels.” The album earned spots on Best of 2018 lists from The Music Mermaid and Indientry.
“With Love,” sings its own story of distance “across the ocean, another land” with similar feelings of longing and loneliness. “I watched you walk away played over and over again” songwriter Cameron Carr sings of a disappearing loved one after the first chorus while the music literally disappears, swallowed up by a noisy wave. The song actually predates Leave and Never Come Back, though. Originally appearing as an early demo for the band, “With Love,” is reimagined here with a tom-heavy drum beat driving the spoken word bridge and new member Laura Lenhart providing a synth-like clarinet countermelody throughout.
