Dragons Dogma

Capcom are renowned for a vast quantity of superb games, from Street Fighter to Final Fight, Resident Evil to Devil May Cry, but the one gaming genre I never, even in my most intoxicated state, expected to witness was Capcom attempting to create an open world RPG. Hideaki Itsuno, the director of the Devil May Cry series since DMC 2 (which is still regarded as the weakest in the franchise), will take the helm for this upcoming project which promises to be an epic adventure of a similar ilk as The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. Details at this point are still fairly thin, but expect many side missions, fights, shopping and numerous mystical things to keep any wandering warrior significantly satisfied. The character creation is one of the more intricate parts to Dragons Dogma. As with other RPG’s you choose, create and design your individual character to your own specifications, be it male or female, and what attributes you wish to exhale in, but uniquely your created character will inherit the mind of a dragon, granting you with an advantage over these scally fiends.

There will be a diversity of classes for you to choose from, but only 3 have been announced officially for now. Your selections include Fighters, who are unsurprisingly, great at fighting, Mages (take a guess at what they do), and Strider, who are quick footed with precision bow techniques. But one of the most exciting prospects that Dragons Dogma has up its medieval sleeve, are the mammoth creatures that your become confronted with during your journey. The already mentioned Dragons will be prominent throughout, but also Griffons and most notably, a giant serpent known as Hydra, who even when decapitated spawns 2 new heads in its place, making your average boss battle that much more complicated and tactical. Vanquishing bosses will also require you to grapple on to these mythical beasts and penetrate weak points on the creatures, which will also greatly increase your chances of becoming dragons grub. If the details here aren’t enticing you, then check out the link below, and be justifiably angered at the prospect of waiting till 2012 to play Dragons dogma.

Is this the wrong move for Capcom? Or could Dragons Dogma rival Skyrim?
