Doughnut-Shaped Hushpuppies at Clark’s Barbecue, Kernersville, North Carolina

A while back, I had an email from my brother, Jim, about Clark’s Barbecue.  I meant to stop by Clark’s on my last trip to Charlotte, but my plan got lost in the tall weeds of my life.   And I’ve lost Jim’s covering email and his comments on the food.  I do remember the main thing at Clark’s caught his imagination.  Behold:

clarks

Those are not onion rings.  They’re hushpuppies.  Doughnut-shaped hushpuppies.

And the rest of the food looks pretty good.

Have you been to Clark’s?  It’s on the Campaign for Real Barbecue list, and the Barbecue Bros (specifically, Monk the Pulitzer nominee) gave it a good review (3.5 stars) a few years ago, with a big thumbs up for the hushpuppies (they “bring out as many baskets of hush puppies as you like, a touch I always like to see especially when they are this good.”)

I think, though, that I heard that Clark’s is under new management, so I welcome any recent reports.  Otherwise, It’ll probably have to wait until Mr. Barbecue in Winston-Salem reopens to get back to Forsyth County after my  Winston-Salem debacle.

Give me a holler.
