In order to be a football player in the Southeastern Conference, it takes a great deal of skill and toughness. Luckily for Donovan McMillon, he possesses both as one of the toughest high school athletes to graduate in the state of Pennsylvania in 2021.

His skills on the wrestling mat and on the gridiron allowed him to finish as a state runner-up in wrestling as a high school junior while also being a four-star prospect and the number 11 safety in the country coming out of Peters Township High School according to 247Sports. He left Peters Township football as a former All-State selection and helped lead his team to a WPIAL runner-up finish in 2020. Winning over 100 career wrestling matches in the state of Pennsylvania is no easy task, but neither is playing in the SEC in football; a conference many view as the best in the nation. A once undersized high school sophomore who played with a great deal of heart and toughness suddenly grew into his body, and teams around the entire nation started to take notice. There’s no doubt that McMillon has been up to the task, with many other football powerhouses in agreement. He chose to become a Florida Gator over attending programs like Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan and Oklahoma.

His ties to the state of Florida are strong with his father, Darrin, one of his high school coaches at Peters Township, being from the state originally. Moving from suburban Pittsburgh to Gainesville, Florida allows him to experience warmer weather, connect with new people with the same goals in media and fashion, and of course play for an elite football tradition. His first year at Florida saw him play in all 13 of the program’s games, with him registering 10 tackles overall. His Gators qualified and were selected for postseason play in which they took on fellow Florida school, UCF, in the Gasparilla Bowl.

It is now a new era of Florida Gators football with Head Coach Billy Napier leading the way, and the WPIAL product McMillon will hopefully be a part of their long term plans in the secondary over his remaining three years of eligibility.
