Don’t Waste Your Sports – Loyalty
You don’t have to be an avid sports fan to know loyalty is rare commodity. What I mean by loyalty is a commitment to an organization from a player or a player to a team. Instead of working for an organization or playing for a team and seeking to be loyal to them for the rest of your playing career, the athlete or coach seems to always be looking out for the bigger contract or the more successful team.

I don’t blame players for wanting to win and perhaps there are times when changing teams is a healthy thing to do in order to achieve some greater things in your career, but loyalty doesn’t even seem to be on the radar of enough players.
2 players that are incredibly loyal to their teams regardless of the “ups and downs” and will retire with the teams they were originally drafted by are LA Lakers guard Kobe Bryant and Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis. There have been times when both players had an opportunity to leave their respective teams for more money or better players, but they stayed with their respective organizations.
Loyalty is something to be recognized. On a spiritual plane, that is a metaphor for salvation. Being loyal to Christ is equal to salvation. When you come into the kingdom of God, you are embracing Christ as Lord and Savior. Thus, you are pledging your loyalty to One over all others and you are promising never to put any others over Him. That is loyalty.
That is what I want my life to look like. I want every decision I make, every word I speak and every emotion I share to prove my loyalty to Christ.
God is looking for loyal followers (II Chron 16:9). Is that you?
