Digipack Design
In order to visualise my digipak, I created a template of how I intend it to look. I used many of the ideas from my preliminary digipak mindmap.

Photos: The images used on this digipak will be as follows –
Front ‘Artist image’:
As seen by my Photography Plan, the photo which I intend to use on the digipak cover is one of the ones taken on set at Groudle Beach, in which my model will be posed side-on facing forward; she will engage in direct eye contact with the camera and will display a serious, composed expression. In the Photo, my model will be dressed in the outfit shown in the music video: a bright, yellow top; ripped, over-sized jeans and a pink coat. The image will be a mid shot of my model in front of the scenic Groudle sea line and cliffs.
Back ‘Scenic image’:
The image featured on the back of my digipak will be a scenic wide shot of the cliffs at Groudle beach; it will be framed so that the cliffs are presented at the bottom of the image. The majority of the photo will be consumed by the clear (hopefully!!) sky. On top of the ‘sky’ portion of the image, the album’s tracklist will be placed.
Interior Panel ‘Artist image’:
The interior panel will feature a scenic wide shot of my artist sat on some sea rocks at Port Jack beach, turned from the camera; she will appear to be in a thoughtful / contemplative state. In the image, my model will be dressed in a bright, orange top and some jeans.
Conventional Design Features: On my digipak, many pop digipak conventions are present, including –
Images: The image present on the digipak’s cover, like many pop digipaks, is a centrally-framed mid shot of the artist with an engaging expression; she maintains direct eye contact with the camera. Her costuming is bright and portrays her own sense of style, another conventional feature of my digipak. The lighting is conventionally highly exposed in order to create a light balance, however, is natural as opposed to artificial. Although the ‘setting’ of most pop digipaks tends to be a simple background to keep the audience’s attention on the artist, my setting is a beach in order to represent the emotional and expressive nature of the artist’s songs. The beach also gives the album an aesthetic appearance, which is present across all of the other images featured within my digipak; they all feature attractive beach scenery. Like many back covers of pop digipaks, my one consists of a simplistic, second image and the tracklist of the album, with the inside of my digipak containing another attractive image of the artist.
Font & Text: As with many pop digipaks, my cover uses a titular font that is large, and rather bold in order to be eye-catching to the audience. Unconventionally, the font is serif in order to achieve a ‘handwritten’ style, reflecting the personal themes of the album. The artist’s name is present at the bottom of the cover in a bold font, immediately attracting attention to the artist’s name. The font of the artist’s name will be stylistic and of serif design to serve as a logo for the artist, in order to create a sense of brand identity. The font of the text featured on the back of my digipak will be easily read whilst also having attractive serif detailing.
Colour: Colours used on my digipak are conventionally bright, in order to both capture the attention of viewers, and to create brand identity for the artist so that the audience can easily identify their products; the artist’s style of branding is consistently bright and eye-catching.
Encoding Meaning: My digipak will encode meaning in the following ways:
Images: The image used on the digipak’s front shows my actress posed in a vulnerable way; her body is faced away from the camera to represent the personal themes of her music. Her face, however, is faced forward to show her strength in addressing such personal themes. Jess maintains eye contact with the camera which makes the photo appear more engaging and enticing. When taking these images, Jess will be dressed in a bright top, ripped jeans and a pink coat, as will be worn in the video; this creates a sense of branding, and also promotes the music video. The coat worn will act as a mask, which disguises the body, to represent the themes of insecurity expressed in the artist’s music. The scenic wide shot used inside my digipak will present my model sat on some sea rocks at Port Jack beach, turned from the camera. This will give the impression that she is in a thoughtful / contemplative state, as appropriate for the themes of her music. In this image, my model will be dressed in a bright top and jeans, as in line with her sense of style.
Font & Text: The fonts used are all of artistic, serif design in order to maintain the artist’ sense of aesthetic branding. The font used for the album’s title will appear ‘handwritten’, in order to convey the personal themes of the album. The sizing of the text will be varied: the album title will be the largest text present in order to give prominence to
Colour: The bright, well co-ordinated colours of my digipak represent the music’s theme of striving for inner peace and self-acceptance. The light pink colour heavily used on the exterior of my digipak presents the artist in an approachable, appealing way; pink is the ‘sweet side of red’. The colour is also quite feminine and thus represents that the music takes place from a female perspective; it reflects her experiences and issues. The pink colour also reflects the delicate, ‘soft pop’ nature of the album’s music.
