Did Sony Conquer At E3?

Jun 13, 2011
4 min read

Another year and another E3 has come to an end, and thus begins the annual battle between the developers and their respective fans as to who had the strongest presentations and the brighter future. Now this being a Playstation blog my opinion will likely appear very biased toward Sony, and so it should as we all know that Sony is undeniably great and infallible (cough). Ok so its been an especially trying time for Sony this year, but a good pitch at this years E3 would surely go some way to repairing Sony’s rather tarnished reputation, and from the start it was clear that Sony werent about to slouch and hide away from the obvious.

Sony made the very wise decision from the start, to dive right in to address and attempt to reassure the Playstation users and long time fans that Sony can once again be dependable. The underlining fact is that they made a catastrophic mistake with their feeble security, and they are well aware of that, and one that we as fans are still uncertain as to whether the situations has been competently rectified. I have been a loyal Playstation devotee for close to a decade, and up until this unpleasantness I like so many others had never had any qualms about purchasing Sony merchandise, games, accessories, consoles etc, so one mistake in an otherwise unblemished decade isn’t bad going. So with that unpleasantness hopefully firmly behind us, lets look to the future of Playstation, and more importantly the year ahead.

Lets begin with games that will be gracing your Playstation over the next year, of which there are many. So with that clearly in mind, I’ve condensed the hundreds of potential successes into a top 5, and the games that I feel will dominate proceedings over the coming year.

Assassins Creed: Revelations.

Assassins Creed: Revelations has been officially revealed, although not a numbered sequel it does however see you reprising your role as Ezio, only now Ezio is in he’s 50’s. Assassins Creed Revelations is set for a November release.

Mass Effect 3.

Mass Effect 3 was already looking superb, but it wasn’t until E3 that the gaming world really understood how magnificent ME3 is shaping up to be. The downside however, is that we wont be exploring the galaxy and indulging in any nocturnal activities with the strangely alluring alien companions until March of next year.

Batman Arkham City.

Batman Arkham City will have to produce something special to better or even equal the exquisite action and the claustrophobic feel of its predecessor, but with Two Face, Riddler, Penguin and the femme fatale Catwoman all set to make an appearance, you wouldn’t bet against it.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will once again see your personally crafted character traverse the vast and captivating open world of Skyrim, with plenty of magical shouting, goblins and Dragons, very huge and frightening Dragons no less.

Resident Evil:Operation Racoon City.

Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City will unsurprisingly see you return to Racoon City during the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3, but this time your part of the Umbrella Special Forces sent in to cover up Umbrella’s involvement with the now legendary incident. It may not be an original concept, but a return of the classic zombies is more than welcome.

Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception.

Ok, so I lied about my list consisting of 5, but how could I miss out on what is likely to be the epitome of gaming perfection, and front-runner for game of the year. Oh, and its a Playstation exclusive (sorry X-BOX). Check out the link and watch the pant wettingly exciting gameplay of Nate’s impending adventure.

Other very honourable mentions include FIFA 12 tearing up their own rule book, the return of agent 47 in Hitman: Absolution, everyone’s favourite Xenermorphs are back to once again terrorize your consoles and nightmares in Aliens: Colonial Marines, Dead Island, Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, Street Fighter X Tekken, Jurassic Park, Battlefield 3, Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3, Dragons Dogma…. and a seemingly endless list of further great titles.

Well that’s the games covered, and so here ends my long and rambling post, there’s nothing else to discuss, is there?…. Oh right, the PSP2, that insignificant piece of gadgetry (major sarcasm alert). Yes it’s finally been announced and with an official name too, the PSP Vita. This sleek and sexy handheld is the direct rival to the faltering 3DS, and is so loaded with gadgets and futuristic technology that it could have been simply refered to as the Swiss army PSP. The Vita is equipped with 2 analogue sticks granting the user with far more control, 2 touchscreens (front/back) that are sensitive to even the slightest of glances adding further depth to the way you play the games, 2 cameras that allow the user to take 360 degree pictures, and a 5 inch HD screen accompanied by graphics that could rival many of the earlier PS3 games. Titles for the Vita that have been announced so far include Wipeout 2048, Little Deviants, Hustle Kings, Resistance: Retribution and Uncharted: Golden Abyss. Start saving now though as the prices for the PSP Vita start from around £230 for the wi-fi version and £280 for the 3G version. If you’re not exactly in awe at the details, then click the link and see the PSP Vita in all it’s magnificent’s.

So there still remains one unanswered question (which is pretty callous considering there was only one to begin with), did Sony Conquer at E3 2011? That particular query, I will leave in your very capable hands to deduce.
