DEFEATED SANITY – The Odour of Sanctity
German tech death metal outfit Defeated Sanity have debuted the first single, “The Odour of Sanctity” off the band’s forthcoming seventh album, Chronicles of Lunacy, out November 22nd on Season of Mist.
For the first time in four years, German technical brutal death metal outfit Defeated Sanity are back with a skullcrusher of a new single with “The Odour of Sanctity.” Not only that, but they’ve also announced a new full-length titled Chronicles of Lunacy that’s due out on November 22 via Seasons of Mist.
If you’re at all familiar with Defeated Sanity, then you know they do not fuck around. If you did forget, however, “The Odour of Sanctity” is enough of a reminder all on its own. Featuring pummeling rhythms, biting guitars, and Josh Welshman’s abyssal vocals, it’s absolutely punishing. But then you throw in the jazz-inspired off-kilter delivery the band’s been known for and you’ve got one of the more sonically interesting acts out there right now.
Entranced in devout piety Blessed through Christlike suffering Miraculously inflicted Sacred wounds give way to light
The mystery of the cross Transcending through time To bring common man into divine pain Carved in human flesh A testament to the word of God
Ages wandering through scripture Knees bent in endless prayer Worlds apart from carnal indulgence Yearning, yearning for the love of the Nazarene
Holy advent Apparitions invade my sleep Bearing iconic torment Extremities Transfixed with ancient iron As seraphim weep at my feet
A violent final strike thrusts me Back into consciousness Delusional afflictions embodied Endure in infamy
Infamy
Wounds left forever agape Impervious to disease Ambrosial odours emanating Luring the masses into fervent belief
Sheep, so easily deceived Eagerly seeking His omnipotence upon the earth Pious psychosis floods the mind Yielding self-inflicted crucifixion
Vigor deranged Drove the nails in deep Instantly rupturing tendons A miracle defiled Fraudulently wrought A martyr to none
