Death Becomes You? Just Restart

There are certain gaming inevitability’s that are completely unavoidable. FIFA will continually frustrate and delight in equal consistency, Rockstar will never be capable of creating a GTA game that is a fun and ridiculous to play, as it was to listen too, the way in which Vice City was (who can forget the ad for Rusty Browns Ring Donut’s?!), and I will never truly realise the frivolities of my constant insinuations, that one resident of my town bears an uncanny resemblance to Darnell “Crabman” Turner, from My Name Is Earl, because I’m still throughly convinced it’s him. But another equally ineludible fact is of gaming is death, your death, or more precisely, your simulated protagonist’s death.

How many times have you been presented with the “Your Dead” screen? And you, in a moment of infuriated rage, have unconsciously and viciously propelled your controller into defeatist oblivion, only to approach this same pivotal moment, invigorated with a sense of determination to avoid the same disconcerting fate. I know how it feels to find yourself in the same compromising situation, watching in painful astonishment as you witness your untimely demise, again! Repeating the process and perceiving the situation from every analytical perspective imaginable, only to again have your head crushed like an asthmatic ant. It’s ok though, eventually your overcome even the most frustrating of scenarios. Death provides us with a deep grasp of clarity for our own morality, and confers us with a greater sense of purpose, or in a more immediate and factual accurate account, it’s damn irritating! You can however pivot this frustration into an advantage and harness the bitter discouragement, into a powerful incentive to succeed where we had previously failed. Just hang on in there, it will be worth it in the end.

Because when you position the difficulties of virtual deaths into perspective, in conjunction to the real life equivalent, you comprehend that the former bears little resemblance. So don’t take too it hard, it could be worse, and far more permanently sobering.

What games have do you find notoriously hard to overcome?
