El Zocolo

We went to Puebla this weekend, what a great time. It was really nice to get out of the big city.  Puebla, especially around the Zocalo, is much slower paced.  We really relaxed, wondering around the cobblestone streets.

There are over 70 churches in Puebla.

In our wandering, we stumbled upon a huge and lively fair on Saturday night! There were so many vendors and tons of people out even though it was already 11:00.  There were fair games, one kind of like roulette, but with lotería cards. We won the first round with our chit on el gorrito, but lost it all back when el diabolito came up next (house wins when el diabolito is rolled). There was also that horse racing game that is really fun, where you roll the ball and you race your horse against others.  Well, I won! I got to choose a prize and I chose a stuffed hamburguesa. I made a gift of it to a shy little niño crawling all over one of the less attended games. Good thing the stuffed plush cigarettes were not in the prize bag I chose from.

Blowing up the bubble - notice the boy holding his ears.

We also saw the coolest fair “ride” I’ve ever seen.  It’s a big kiddie pool full of water with human sized bubbles.  The kids got in the bubble, covered their ears and the “ride” attendant filled their bubble with air using a leaf blower! Then they ran around in their bubble in the water, kind of like a hamster wheel.

Fun in the bubble.
