Day 57

We woke up next to our new friend and played some jokes to wake him up. Jack game him movies from his hard drive and we went to do the campsite’s walk. It was more wild track and we got hot quickly going up and down the hill. Jack played his usual game which involved him running ahead and camouflaging into bushes (he filmed us with my phone). We left Julia and Enya and gave them our blog before going with Xavier to the walk we saw at the Lime Kiln. It was actually a quite steep track though forest and then paddocks. We got really hot and sweaty during the three hours of walking. We were dreaming of a shower and aimed to go to the pool at Pleasant Point. After cooking we tried to cook pasta at the back of our car. The sun was burning hot! A nice local actually offered us access to his water tap in his garden, sweet!
Jack found a better pool not to far as this one seemed to busy and small. We had a fun time in Timaru swimming pool (they had a jumping balcony, floating objects and even a 50m outdoor pool!). The city was nice around and we went to see the gardens near the beach. They also had a big playground that we tried out. The aviary was a huge metal and spherical cage. Lots of pretty birds were around and Xavier made a friend, Zachary the cockatoo. Quite hungry we decided to get the three pizza deal at Pizza Hutt (yummy!). We decided to drive to a free campsite by the beach…. Bad idea! We found some French people we kept seeing around and a dust storm flew into us out of nowhere. 20 minutes back inland had us arriving at the next closest free site – which was more sheltered and grassy for Xavier’s tent. We set up for the night, then piled into Sue to watch Scott Pilgrim VS The World on Xavier’s laptop before a late night.
