Sandwiches for breakfast to set off early for the Maitai Caves. An easy track at first but then after halfway and a river crossing became a very bush owned walk. I ferried Marianne across the rivers (aren’t I nice) and after a slower but amazingly lush last 45 minutes we got to the cave. With a steep slippery entrance and a rope in, I went along with a super torch. The cave had two sections, the first large with a creek flowing through it, the second small with a small pool of water. Contempt and mud covered I climbed out and we journeyed back to the car.

Porridge for lunch. Drove and drove and DROVE to Motueka. Visited the iSite then explored the surroundings finding a beach walk with stick houses, another Japanese garden and an old rusting boat with grass on top. Slightly satisfied we drove to a free camping site for our first legal sleep so far. Prior to finding a campsite a wrong turn lead to another overheating issue with a hill… Something was wrong with Sue….
