We woke up (I did hear the kids coming back at night) in John and Liyana’s garden and went in the house to make pancakes in a proper kitchen. No one was awake and the mum arrived home as the rain started. We helped clean up the kitchen and finally made perfect non sticky pancakes! They allowed us to have a shower which was very nice of them. We left and got their mail adress to thanks them again for their generosity! We drove then to the tree top walk to check out their prices but stopped on the way to do the picnic walk. The way was nice on an old tram line and we got a little view of the lake… to skip some more stones. The tree top structure was really expensive so we just used their toilets and went back in Hokitika. We did a healthier food shopping to stock up for the mountains and got cheaper fuel here. I played Pokemon a bit to get some Poke-stops and gyms before i could collect my coins.

The weather was pretty good that day! I started to drive to the glaciers and stopped on rocky beach with a friendly dog chasing us with his chewy ball. We made a stop at Ross and did the old Gold mining track going through a cemetery on top of the town. Our next stop was in Harihari to do the Wilberg track. There was a big nice cat watching out near Sue. We then ended driving to nowhere in the kiwi reserve near Okarito. We drove to that town instead and decided to do the lookout track before the night. The lagoon was quite pretty and we could see the snowy mountains from the lookout platform. However the track was pretty steep! Down near the beach we made dinner as fast as we could, keeping moving and walking in circles to avoid plenty of nasty sand flies. As the sun was going down, we drove up to a touristic area before the Franz Joseph glacier and slept in a dead end where future accommodation would be built.
