Day 18

We drove near the beach in Greymouth to find a little spot more protected by the wind waves. We had porridge with a cheeky young Weka. We then did a 45 minute walk on the coast to Cape Elizabeth lookout. It started to rain as we made our way back to the car. The rain became heavier and we had a look at Cobden cave which was a bit disappointing right under the highway. Our boots still not dry from our rivers crossing we got wet quickly and the muddy cave was to slippery. Then as the weather wasn’t improving, we decided to enjoy a warm and covered bathe at the Westland Recreation Center.
The pool was quiet and the hot tub quite relaxing. Still raining when we got out, we tried to do the small walks written on our map. We went to see some birds in a swamp, climbed lots of stairs to (not see) a gun in an old basement, and attempted to do the Lions walk (which was way to muddy and wet). We finally got two little strawberries from Salsa! Little sour but still tasty. We ended up making dinner under the bridge on the dirt road to be a little protected from the rain. We found an abandoned park to sleep, and booked the last hotel available after searching a long time.
