Day 12

Drove to the toilets for breakfast and prep the car. Filled up with fuel then began the long drive to Westport. There were a few stops along the way. First was a grand long swing bridge around 30 minutes out of Motueka. The next stop was Lake Nelson. We did a few short walks, the lake was beautiful surrounded by mountains with clear water. A longer walk lead to a waterfall (which wasn’t so amazing). Moving further south stopped us at a historical railway with a short walk over a bridge and though a small tunnel from 1923. I enjoyed this, Marianne thought it was “ok”.
Lastly was the Ghost road track. Unsure why it was named so, provided a simple walk in addition to an 80km bike trail. Before this (having a hard time remembering) we stopped at Murchison for lunch. There was an incredible op shop there full of various things. We got a 90’s classics CD set for the car, only to find the car CD player wouldn’t play it. Returning the CD set we continued on. Arriving in Westport we drove in circles before making dinner, only to drive around more circles to find somewhere to sleep, giving up and sleeping in a residential street.
