Day 11 of 29: To Do Three Essays, Two Presentations, Technique Analysis Video, Ethics Submission

I am currently on day 11 of 29 in a critical phase of my masters course. The sports and analysis season was officially over 12 days ago with the All Nations Volleyball Tournament. What was left was a mountain of coursework I neglected and had to get through. It essentially have to:
1. Write three essays totalling 13,000 words. 2. Prepare and present two presentations. 3. Edit a technique analysis video. 4. Complete and submit an ethics application.
It doesn’t sound much but the three essays are all subjects that I have very little prior learning and thus have to learn from scratch. In the middle of all that, I have my 30th birthday to celebrate (twice too – one in London and one in Cardiff).
The workload is immense and the stress levels are high. Thankfully, my coping strategy is to work harder to complete all tasks. I have adopted 10 hour working days, 7 days a week. I work hard because I want to do the best I can in everything I do (that is important to me anyway).
So why am I here writing a blog post and not working on those essays or presentations? It’s because it’s important to step back and reflect. Not reflective practice as I have learnt (like considering your emotions etc.) but stopping for a moment to peek my head over the parapet and seeing the bigger landscape.
What have I seen? I am behind schedule big time! I can feel the pressure building and it only serves to increase my motivation to mass those hours to get the job done. I have rearranged my targets so hopefully I can stick to it. The first target: finish my work experience essay by Saturday afternoon. I have a tough two days ahead of me folks. Lets get cracking!
