D3VbWest Top 25 (10/31/22)

I’m going to admit up front that I’m not going to spend my normal time on this. Thankfully, I have “SoCal” and his statistics file to save me time but I’m still going to do even less this round. I’ve got a number of other items on the schedule that also need to get done but I’ve also had to spend time getting my son out of the door this morning. He’s finally moving to Chicago and between loading up the car and getting the cat to agree, it’s been fun. I’ll mention it again, if anyone in Chicago can  help out a struggling actor, drop me a line. I’m not saying it can improve your team’s outlook in my rankings but it’s not going to hurt it, either.

Remember that key results are for the past week.

My rank, (my previous rank, AVCA rank), record; key results; P/S (for/against).1 (1, 1) Claremont-M-S 26-0, W: None; 18.78/12.10. 2 (2, 5) Northwestern 28-2, W: None; 18.15 /12.00. 3 (3, 4) Trinity 25-3, W: None; 17.52/13.87. 4 (4, 2) Juniata 26-1, W: None; 18.38/10.10. 5 (6, 3) Calvin 23-3, W: Albion; 17.03 /13.77. 6 (5, 9) Wittenberg 21-4, W: None L: Millikin; 17.16/12.65. 7 (12, 12) UW-Oshkosh 30-4, W: None; 16.37 /13.26. 8 (7, 6) NYU 23-5, W: None L: Johns Hopkins; 16.58/14.16. 9 (9, 11) Emory 18-6, W: BSC, Berry; 17.70/13.31. 10 (8, 8) Berry 20-4, W: None L: Emory; 17.46/12.95. 11 (17, 23) Transylvania 23-5, W: WashU; 17.27 /13.55. 12 (11, 10) UW-Whitewater 23-6, W: UW-Eau Claire L: Cornell; 17.13/13.03. 13 (10, 7) WashU 27-4, W: None L: Transylvania; 16.55/13.38. 14 (13, 13) Wesleyan 21-2, W: None; 16.88 /14.23. 15 (14, 17) UW-Stevens Point 23-6, W: None; 16.33/13.62. 16 (15, 15) Gustavus Adolphus 23-4, W: None; 16.71/14.07. 17 (16, 14) UW-Eau Claire 21-8, W: None L: UW-Whitewater, Concordia (WI); 16.15/14.50. 18 (18, 21) UC Santa Cruz 18-4, W: None; 17.12/13.21. 19 (19, 18) Otterbein 21-5, W: Mount Union; 16.46/13.34. 20 (20, 16) Hope 21-6, W: None; 17.50/13.80. 21 (21, 20) Coe College 25-5, W: None; 15.62/14.19. 22 (23, 19) MIT 22-5, W: Babson; 17.13/12.59. 23 (22, 22) Albion 23-5, W: None L: Calvin; 16.64 /14.14. 24 (24, NR) Case Western Reserve 21-4, W: None;16.37/13.89. 25 (25, 24) Tufts 18-5, W: None; 16.42/13.36. Dropped out: None

Not much movement and no one dropped although there is probably a team or two that deserves to come in. I struggled with Albion as I don’t believe they are getting into the NCAA Tournament but that happens almost every year.

Calvin moved into my Top 5 replacing Wittenberg despite Wittenberg beating them earlier in the year. There are just some teams playing better now than the first week so we’ll get some of that. I moved Oshkosh into my Top 10 as they haven’t lost in a month. They do have a loss to Whitewater so that was holding them back but you have to credit their recent play, too. I am worried about their Points/Set numbers but they keep winning and play in a tough conference. Moved Emory ahead of Berry based on the recent win. I don’t know who wins on a neutral court. I was thinking Berry, but Emory looked good and yes, I know, Berry was coming off a 5-set match right before taking on Emory. Another team playing really well is Transylvania who just swept WashU. They also haven’t lost in a month. After that, everything was pretty static.

One thing for the Santa Cruz fans. I forgot about you in the Weekly Wrap-Up and that has since been corrected.

As a reminder, Ricky Nelson does a Top 10 each week, which you can find at his site. We have the same Top 5 but in a different order. He also brought in Oshkosh this week. I have Emory and Berry in my Top 10 while he has WashU and Whitewater. I mean that’s fine but it’s obvious Ricky hates the South and everyone in it. 😉
