Director: David DeCoteau

Starring: Linnea Quigley, Ken Abraham, Michael Aranda, Richard Hawkins

A group of survivors try to avoid the battles of World War III. When they try to escape to the quiet lands, they encounter something much more deadly.

It’s probably not the case, but my subconscious mind convinces me director David DeCoteau was trying to make another ‘Aliens’ movie. Sadly for him, though, the budget did not allow it. Neither did his directing ability…

In a post-apocalyptic world, a handful of survivors discover an abandoned bunker. They soon discover experiments were done there, and that whoever operated from there, were trying to keep something locked in, instead of preventing someone or something from entering the bunker.

Richard Hawkins stars as Jake, the group’s leader and the film’s protagonist. Unfortunately I didn’t find him a strong enough actor for the role. He is a big guy, but very softly spoken. As a result, he didn’t sound convincing whenever he was giving orders. The film also suffers from ordinary to bad dialogue, and mostly bland.

As for the creature effects, hell they were bad! Especially the giant rats, which were lifeless creatures with little to no movability. The monster looked artificial – like a machine with unrealistic movement . The baby towards the end was the best creation by far, although even it was limited with regards to movability, and only constantly moved its eyes to make it look alive. It was a mean looking thing, though, and by far the film’s best feature, and delivered the most enjoyable – and memorable – moments.

Speaking of enjoyable; although the film has numerous flaws and is a typical B-movie, it somehow was still entertaining. By the time the film reached it’s climax, I thought it wasn’t all that bad. Still, it’s not the type of film I’d watch again in a hurry. I’d rather watch ‘Aliens’.

Would I watch it again? No.
