Creating a New Volleyball Analysis System and Building a New Corresponding Spreadsheet
CREATING A NEW VOLLEYBALL ANALYSIS SYSTEM

I wanted to create a more complex volleyball analysis system. It is an expanded ratings system. I thought I pretty much hit it spot on until after coding 2 matches but it still needs to be expanded more. Anyway, it is pictured on the left.
The system also allows you to automatically code for the opposition, saving you time. For example, a service ace is automatically a reception error for the opposition. However, the action variables highlighted in yellow needs to be coded for the other team.
It is not perfect but I have began to think of ways to make it more inclusive.

BUILDING A NEW CORRESPONDING VOLLEYBALL SPREADSHEET
Because of the new ratings system, I also had to build a new volleyball spreadsheet. Unfortunately, it wasn’t going to be as quick as before (see previous blog post). I have encountered a few barriers when using data for Team South Wales:
1. Three matches were coded already. Thus, I had to add more codes to get the data I wanted but it was still a simpler version of the above rating system. I coded the next two matches using the new ratings system. The spreadsheet had to accommodate both these systems and what the Head Coach wants.
2. Three matches were coded in Dartfish while the other two were coded in SportsCode. Whilst making a new tagging panel and code window was easier enough, the problem is getting the data out. In SportsCode you can copy and paste and the spreadsheet can recognise the corresponding cell numbers. This is of course having spent the time working out where those cells are beforehand. In Dartfish, I pretty much have to do it manually (although I am sure it can be done quicker). This part is still kicking my ass and it taking forever!
3. I wanted to make an eye-catching match report rather than the standard one I have used before (see previous blog post). Below is what I have so far and is a work in progress. The bottom should be a match by match tracker. I am also thinking about a picture of a person spiking and the hitting stats (e.g. errors, kills etc)

4. It is just an enormous spreadsheet that the numerous calculation checking is immense! Because there is a lot of copied cells where one data affects another, one mistake and the house of cards folds. The picture below is just what I have for one match (the two blacked out boxes and the match report is all that’s needed to be looked at).

A WORK IN PROGRESS
So pretty much, this spreadsheet is kicking my ass. I am convinced, there are quicker ways of doing things but I do not know them as of yet. I haven’t even thought about the time it will take to do the season totals and averages or the match by match player tracking. However, once its done,
