Costume, Props & Makeup
Throughout the video the actor will be shown in two simplistic costumes, once again in order to keep the focus on talent as opposed to looks. The actor will be dressed in oversized ripped jeans, a bright yellow patterned shirt and a large pink coat. This simplistic, yet bright outfit will be worn during the beach scenes giving a more uplifting atmosphere. As well as being appropriate for the outdoor location, the coat will act as a mask which disguises the body to represent the actor’s insecurity. The coat will be removed during the indoor scenes in order to accompany the scenes in which she removes her makeup and gradually lets go of her insecurity. The second costume will consist of a hoodie, which is much more casual and reflects comfort and the character’s growing confidence to be able to be her natural self without conforming to society’s expectations. The props that I will be using include numerous mirrors to show the reflective nature as expressed by the song’s lyrics; a full-length mirror, a dressing table mirror and a wall mirror. Other props will include makeup & wipes which will be shown during the bedroom scenes. The makeup signifies the character’s need to conceal them self from the world, and its removal shows the character’s gradual journey to self-acceptance. Equally, the mirror indicates the obsession the character has over her insecurities, as her contemplative state. Throughout the video, the actor’s make up will be kept simplistic, with the exception of bright red lipstick to pop on screen.
