Costco food courts around the country and the world
I have always been very interested in other cultures. Although I have not traveled extensively, when I do travel, one of the fun parts is trying regional foods. It was especially enjoyable when I went to France and Italy! The United States also has some fun local foods to try, including New York pizza and deli, sourdough bread in San Francisco, and of course seafood on the East Coast. I also remember being introduced to the now ubiquitous avocado many years ago in California.
Unless you are one of those obsessed with Costco (10 ways to know you are obsessed with Costco: Part 1) who may visit Costcos while traveling to see different products in different areas of the country, you may not care about regional items in the food court menu. Nevertheless, I was curious as to whether Costco’s menu caters to local tastes in different areas. I was suspecting some obvious ones such as avocados used frequently in CA or mangoes and pineapples in Hawaii, but I did not. I did, however, see that even the “standard items” vary, that there are a few state- or region- specific foods, and that some countries have unique products.
Some standard items that I have seen in a few, but not all of the local Costo stores are:
-churros
-chicken Caesar salad
Standard items that I have never seen are:
-mocha latte freeze
-turkey wrap
-BBQ brisket sandwich
Regional or state items:
-chili (some east coast, some Midwestern states)
-cheeseburgers (Georgia)
-bratwurst (Midwest)
-French fries (one store in PA, a few on east coast)
-gelato (Hawaii)
International items:
-French fries with poutine (Canada)
-chicken strips (Canada)
-hamburgers (Canada)
-Hawaiian pizza (Mexico)
-pina colada smoothies (Mexico)
-clam chowder (Japan, South Korea, Taiwan)
-meat pies (Australia)
-seafood-topped pizza (Asia and Mexico)
-jacket potatoes (stuffed baked potatoes; United Kingdom)
-Bilogi bake (beef bake; Japan)
Any regional or international items you’ve seen or tried?
Any you’d like to see?
What about products in different states, regions, or stores? My search did lead me to see that Japan sells octopus in bulk!
