Comparing Qor Tubes vs Pans

Hi friends! I have used the QoR pan watercolors in my sketchbook for the last few months. I’d used the tubes for years (they are in my portable painter because they are vibrant, dry down hard (don’t ooze all over the place), and rewet well. I purchased the QoR mini sets of pans because I was curious how they compared. I really liked them and wondered how they would fare against the QoR tube paint I had dried down in pans. Watch the video to see them in action! This video was done as a YouTube livestream. I took questions from the audience several times but it’s easy to skip ahead during the Q&A portion. At the end of the video I have a painting demo with the paints/ I hope you find it informative (or a sleep aid if watching at bedtime, I just want to be useful LOL!)

TLDR: The pans are vibrant without activation. Just touch them with a wet brush and you are good to go. The dried-down tubes need prewetting to get a similar response (just spray them with water a couple of minutes before painting) but I think they are equivalent in quality. This is good news because QoR doesn’t offer refill pans so if you use up a pan color you will need to refill it with a tube.

I hope you found this useful! I put all of my QoR pans in one of the small tins after removing the silicone insert. You can fit 24 pans in if you like. I am much more likely to use them that way. Happy crafting!
