Coaching Hire Game!

The (hot) wife and I just got back from Ireland, which is why the content has lagged these last 2-weeks. Have no fear, however, as the Latvians never get a holiday and have discovered that Dallas has hired their new coach. We do have one problem in that Dallas has not announced it so it’s time for our new game, Guess Who Was Hired!

Alright, here is your clue. I actually think with some Googling skills and luck, someone will be able to get this. I will not confirm until I see Dallas’ announcement or I get tired of waiting.

  • The new Dallas coach had an assistant at their previous school, who later went on to get her own coaching gig, who played with my daughter on her high school team.

Anyone care to give that a go? (I’m sure a number of you affiliated with the program know the answer already but please try to respect the game.)

Bonus Clue! The previous school of this coach is east of the Mississippi River.

Regardless, congrats to the new coach and to Dallas for their hire. I think that closes the books on head coach openings in Region X.

Did someone mention Ireland? Yes, we are now back. We did a lot of driving around the island. Lots of beautiful sights. Lots of sheep. We actually got to see twin lambs being born and one was a breech. This meant the owner had to get elbows deep. As he walked off, I yelled, “The women want to shake your hand!” Even in a foreign country, I am funny.

Another good one that only I thought was funny. We were at a restaurant that served pizza after a long day of driving and walking an Abby. They had a limited menu because we went right before peak season. They only served pizza but we really wanted fries as they looked great on the menu. No luck. Towards the end of our meal another family came in and they were also disappointed they couldn’t get fries. As we left, I thanked the cook and said (loudly) I really appreciated him getting us those fries even though they are not allowed to sell them. Well, I guess it was the little boy in the family that wanted the fries and he perked up. The grandmother immediately turned to the cook and demanded fries, too. I quickly deescalated the French fry situation and the family got the joke. Even the grandmother. Not sure about the kid. My humor is really more for the above 6 crowd.

I did get lips on the Blarney Stone so Southwestern will be your 2025 National Champions. In case you are unaware of how that process works, you sit down with your back to the wall where the stone is mounted. A handler dips you back and down through a hole so you can now see the “stone”. (The stone is really a part of the castle wall 85 feet off the ground.) There are two bars you hold on to so you don’t fall through the hole. With me, once I saw the target, I wanted to kiss the bottom of the stone so as the handler tried to pull me up, I forced myself down through the hole (backwards) to get under the stone for the smooch.

The roads in Ireland are fun! Very narrow but my rental came back no worse for the wear. I was talking to the guy checking out the vehicle and he started talking about damage. I had taken pictures and video of the rental before we left so I had proof there was no damage. Long story, short…he was talking about the car to the left of mine that was just returned. The entire back end was pushed in from getting rear ended. Yikes.

Alright…statistics loss articles are still in front of me. I also need to do a pass through the recruits.
