Charlie Breindel Looks Back On Time at Elk County Catholic; Committed to Become Penn State Behrend Hooper

Few 11-year olds can bark out to high schoolers what press break they should run, what kind of defense they need to be in, or that they need to improve their shot selection. But, few kids were like 11-year old Charlie Breindel.

It seems fitting that around seven years after I first met the now Elk County Catholic graduate that he’s now becoming a college basketball player and is fresh off a run to the PIAA semifinals with the Elk County Catholic Crusaders.

A D9andD10Sports and Allegheny Mountain League All-Star as a senior, Breindel helped bring Elk County Holiday Tournament and District 9 gold back to St Marys during the 2021-22 season. But, perhaps his best performances were in the state playoffs, willing his team to victory again and again to help take Head Coach Aaron Straub to his fifth PIAA Western Final in his career
Breindel will be heading to Penn State Behrend this fall to study environmental science with hopes to work in safety one day. He will be joining the Behrend Lions man’s basketball program, one of the winningest programs in Division III over the last 20 or so years.

To listen to a full conversation on how he’s gotten to where he is today and some of the folks who have made it possible, check out the linked podcast below.
