Capote (2005)

Director: Bennett Miller
Starring: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Clifton Collins Jr., Catherine Keener
In 1959, Truman Capote learns of the murder of a Kansas family and decides to write a book about the case. While researching for his novel In Cold Blood, Capote forms a relationship with one of the killers, Perry Smith, who is on death row.
Wow, what a performance by Philip Seymour Hoffman!! He stars as the titular author Truman Capote. When Capote reads a newspaper article about a quadruple murder on a farm, he is so intrigued that he decides to travel there to interview various people about the murders, wanting to write an article himself.
As evidence were gathered, Capote became increasingly interested in the story. When two murder suspects, Perry Smith and Richard Hickock, were caught, Capote interviewed them, as well. Capote is gay, and became infatuated with Perry. He tried everything in his power to prevent Perry, especially, and Richard from being executed. He decided to write a novel about the crime instead, and would visit Perry over a period of three years gathering information.
‘Capote’ was so different to what I was expecting. It was better! And I absolutely loved Hoffman’s performance! The film also features beautiful cinematography.
‘Capote’ received 148 award nominations, winning 59 including the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Philip Seymour Hoffman, off course; no surprise there!). At the box office, the film earned nearly $50 million on a $7 million budget.
Would I watch it again? Maybe.
