Candid Camera at Costco
I don’t think it will come as a surprise to people that I like Candid Camera. As long as it’s in good fun I think social experiments are great. So, when I was writing the most about the movies, TV shows, songs, and books and thought candid camera would be a good show for it (Costco: Movies, TV, Songs, and Books), I realized I had not written a post of ways to put people in weird situations at Costco… definitely time. Here are ten situations that I think would make good candid camera scenarios.
Switching from he/him or she/her for ease of examples.
1. Member is told that the bakery is having a problem with quality control and they are asking members to count the chocolate chips in 10 random packages of cookies. Member is handed a pair of tweezers to pick out the chips.
2. Greet member by saying you’ve been waiting since he is the final contestant to arrive. Bring him to a table loaded with hot dogs and cups of water. Others are sitting around the table. When member expresses confusion, cut him off and tell him the hot dog eating competition is about to begin.
3. Greet member with balloons and singing “Happy Birthday.” Stick a party hat on her and bring her to the back of the store where other shoppers are at a table with a big cake.
4. Tell member that none of the sample servers showed up so each member is being asked to take a short shift of offering samples.
5. Tell the member that Costco has decided to be “higher class” to compete with the other warehouse stores. To do this, they need help painting the store. Hand member an apron, paint, and a paintbrush.
6. Tell member that all members should have been sent an email informing them about the new “black tie” days. So only members wearing tuxedos or evening gowns are permitted to enter.
7. Don’t say anything but have a fake wedding take place down the main aisle. Walk member into store and say “don’t let the wedding disturb you. Just shop as usual”.
8. The store is virtually empty of products. There is one watermelon, a few cartons of milk, a few tshirts, one pack of muffins. However, the other “shoppers” are not acting as though anything is unusual.
9. Member walks around shopping and all other members are opening packages and just eating things and say to member that he should try this or that because it’s really good.
10. Member enters the store (in the United States) and is greeted in French. As member shops, the other shoppers and all employees are speaking French.
Any others you’d like to see?
