C2C Predictions

The Coast to Coast (C2C) Conference came out with their coaches predictions earlier this week so I’m a little late getting this out. In fairness, I think I missed it entirely last year so, overall, I’m getting better.

The poll is done only by the head coaches in this league and they have chosen Mary Washington as their top team. They received 4 of the first place votes. They were followed by Christopher Newport (2 first place votes) and UC Santa Cruz (1 first place vote). The league sees newcomer Warren Wilson join and the coaches all greeted them with 6 last place votes. The C2C is unique in DIII volleyball as they literally have schools on each coast and play no conference schedule. They do play a conference tournament where Salisbury typically creates massive havoc although Mary Washington won last year.

I didn’t really predict a C2C winner but based off my preseason Top 25, I would have had UC Santa Cruz, Mary Washington and Chris Newport in that order. With that said, late news that the Banana Slugs have lost two top players to early graduation would have had me changing to agree with the coaches. I haven’t double-checked the Chris Newport or Mary Washington 2023 rosters but each of these teams is losing around 20% to graduation. It should be pointed out that these three teams will be playing two matches against each other during the season so great matches on the horizon.

I haven’t given any love to Salisbury who were picked 4th but they are losing around 50% to graduation so, in theory, they should be a step behind the big three in this conference.
