Book Review Blurb: In Defense of the Bible
The Tuesday feature of the Worldly Saints is all about reading. The post is meant to share some of my reflections from the latest book or magazine article or blog post I have or am reading. At times, I may post a book blurb (a wannabe book review) or recommend books to be read by others.

I have been working my way through a book entitled In Defense of the Bible: A Comprehensive Apologetic for the Authority of Scripture. I have been pleasantly surprised by this resource. The questions that are asked and answered have left me with almost no further inquisitions. The articles are lengthy enough to deal with the issues but short enough and written plainly to give to any laymen.
I would encourage any church-goer to buy and read this book. (WARNING – The book is 512 pages. Read slowly to digest.)
Each chapter asks and answers a fundamental question. The questions addressed are as follows:
Chapter 1 – “Can and would God speak to us?” written by R. Douglas Geivett
Chapter 2 – “What does it mean to say that the Bible is true?” written by Douglas K. Blount
Chapter 3 – “What has higher criticism shown?” written by Charles L. Quarles
Chapter 4 – “Can we understand the Bible?” written nu Richard R. Melick, Jr.
Chapter 5 – “Has the O.T. text been hopelessly corrupted?” written by Paul D. Wegner
Chapter 6 – “Has the N.T. text been hopelessly corrupted?” written by Daniel B. Wallace
Chapter 7 – “Does the Bible contain forgeries?” written by Terry L. Wilder
Chapter 8 – “Is the story of Jesus borrowed from pagan myths?” written by Mary Jo Sharp
Chapter 9 – “Is the O.T. historically reliable?” written by Walter C. Kaiser, Jr.
Chapter 10 – “Is the N.T. historically reliable?” written by Paul W. Barnett
Chapter 11 – “Are there contradictions in the Bible?” written by Douglas S. Huffman
Chapter 12 – “Does the Bible condone genocide?” written by Matthew Flannagan and Paul Copan
Chapter 13 – “Does the Bible condone slavery and sexism?” written by James M. Hamilton
Chapter 14 – “Does the Bible conflict with science?” written by William A. Dembski
Chapter 15 – “Are there conflicting theologies in the Bible?” written by Craig A. Blaising
Chapter 16 – “Do we have the right canon?” written by Paul D. Wegner, Terry L. Wilder, and Darrell L. Bock
Chapter 17 – “Is the Bible the Word of God?” written by Steven B. Cowan
Because the Bible is constantly under attack, the subject of defending the Bible is always relevant. And this book promises to better equip you to engage in that battle.
Without hesitation, I give this book 10 out of 10 stars!
