Director: Chris Sun

Starring: Nathan Jones, Bill Moseley, John Jarratt

In the harsh, yet beautiful Australian outback lives a beast, an animal of staggering size, with a ruthless, driving need for blood and destruction. It cares for none, defends its territory with brutal force, and kills with a raw, animalistic savagery unlike any have seen before.

I couldn’t help comparing ‘Boar’ to 1984’s ‘Razorback’ – another Australian film about a giant killer boar.

Unfortunately, ‘Boar’ was not nearly as interesting or good as ‘Razorback’. The boar was stocky and lifeless, and clearly a mechanical prop with very little movability. The boar in ‘Razorback’ was lifelike and scary due to its realism. Incredible to think a film made nearly four decades ago is better…

The director also couldn’t decide whether to treat ‘Boar’ as a comedy, or a horror comedy. The only humor I enjoyed, were the sexual connotations. The dialogue was over-dramatic with way too much foul language. The gore is really gross and not realistic. The acting wasn’t good either. The film also added many characters just for the kill, so I didn’t care about any of them – not even the main characters. They were bland and one-dimensional. Bernie was by far the most interesting character – played by WWE star Nathan Jones.

There was hardly an inch of suspense, and the killings were predictable and cliched. ‘Boar’ is nothing more than a low budget slasher with little substance. This was forgettable compared to ‘Razorback’.

Would I watch it again? No. Rather watch ‘Razorback’.
