Bloody Birthday (1981)

Director: Ed Hunt

Starring: Lori Lethin, Melinda Cordell, Julie Brown

Three children are born at the height of an eclipse of the sun. Ten years later, they begin to murder the people around them – even their family members.

Three kids were born during a total solar eclipse, and they are believed to have been born without conscience.

Having a slasher movie with 10-year old kids brutally killing people, is more disturbing than slasher films like ‘Friday the 13th’. ‘Bloody Birthday’ was actually much better than expected. The film has substance, and good performances – especially from the young cast.

Being a slasher movie, you can, off course, expect to see boobs galore. Yup, they utilize every excuse to show the female anatomy. Sometimes I wonder whether they feel insecure about the film’s premise, and hope to gain an audience by adding boob shots. ‘Bloody Birthday’ didn’t really need that; it is a good film in its own right. If looking at boobs is your preference, then this will be an added bonus.

The film is not gory, but the kill scenes are rather disturbing. The film also ends on a chilling note.

Would I watch it again? Maybe.
