Bias for Action with my son & getting more from the Kindle Fire

In the spirit of the Bias-For-Action Amazon leadership principle, I did something cool today. I observed my son using his Kindle Fire 7 tablet. While he propped it up against a flower vase to watch educational shows, he asked why it didn’t have a kickstand like my Surface Pro 4.

I didn’t have a good answer.

He wanted to build one.

So we spent 30 minutes together with OnShape designing a kickstand then a few minutes with the 3D-printer and we absolutely loved the result! We released our design open-source so perhaps others can get more out of their Kindles without having to buy a whole new case.

I’ve been an Amazon employee for less than a year, but I’ve taken the leadership principles to heart and they are helping me with all aspects of my life and I’m making sure our kids learn them too.

Have an idea? Don’t just talk about it, do it!
