Bednar Named NL Relief Pitcher of the Month for June 2025

It’s been a bit of an up-and-down year for David Bednar. Spring training struggles coming off a bad year in 2024 where he lost the closer role continued into the 2025 season. The issues were so bad that not only did he lose the closer role again he was sent down to Triple-A.
Then after a week in the minors he was called back up. Sense that demotion he has been pitching well with a 1.95 ERA in 28 2/3 innings pitched. He has also converted 12 of 12 save chances this season.
During the month of June, he allowed just one unearned run in 10 innings pitched and struck out 16 batters. For this effort he was named the NL reliver of the month for June 2025.
The win is Bednar’s second NL reliver of the month award, but the last one was May of 2022.
It’s good to see Bednar turning it around. Could he be turning the corner right as the trade deadline approaches? Will this make him more likely to be delt, or even raise the asking price for him? Are the Pirates willing to deal him? I guess we will have to wait and find out.
Yet for now it’s better news for the Pittsburgh Pirates as they head into July.
