BCS Area Continued- Lamar And Niki’s Soul Food and Pit BBQ SHORT REVIEW
I’m going to do something a little different with Lamar and Niki’s Soul Food and Pit BBQ. Instead of going through each part of the meal, I’m gonna hit the highlights. Call this a quick blurb. Right of the bat, this is a small joint, with lots of personality. Everyone is beyond friendly and will walk every customer through their offerings, no matter how busy they are. I went for the easy three meat plate with the Texas Trinity.

This is a southern restaurant, plain and simple. Except of course NOTHING is plain here. In true southern fashion, the veggies aren’t just bit players- they are co-stars. The candied yams are what dreams are made of. The cabbage/greens mix is just full of flavor, with the perfect amount of butter and seasoning. The cornbread was equal parts sweet and savory. This is the definition of soul food sides.

Okay have to stop thinking about vegetable perfection. How was the meat? Well it was good! The sausage was an interesting standout. The casing tasted and had the consistency of beef jerky, cutting right through the tangy, slightly sweet sauce, but not clashing too badly. The ribs were tender and fell off the bone as well. I will definitely return for cobbler, and their other entrees like chitterlings and pork chops. If you want good southern cooking with plenty of options, this is the place. I can’t recommend this place enough. It might not be the ideal place for Texas BBQ, but it is too delicious to pass up.
