BBC’s "The Joy of Stats" with Hans Rosling
Reading the “Analysis of Quantitative Sports Performance Data” chapter in “Research Methods for Sports Performance Analysis” (2010) by Peter O’Donoghue got me slightly worried because it was all about applying statistics and the myriad of statistical tests at my disposal. This is of course for preparation for my master’s dissertation. Thus, when “The Joy of Stats” was on television, I thought I should watch it.
The programme was interesting and Hans Rosling’s passion really shines through. In relation to my aim, it didn’t provide me with the answers I was looking for. It was to be expected. It is a show for the public and not a lecture. However, I did gain one insight: . When creating my own graphs for the volleyball statistics I collected, I do struggle to make them inspiring and putting a point across. It could be the limitations of the software and my lack of knowledge in creating the graphs I want. In any case, it is something to think about.
