Banana Ball

Well the Savanah Bananas are making headlines once again. Aside from having an awesome name, they now want to make baseball more exciting. To do so they came up with a game called Banana Ball.

Banana ball has nine rules ment to help the game go faster. They are shown here.

I think some of them are great ideas. I think the n mound visits is a great thing if your talking about speeding up the game. I also think it’s funny to have a 1 on 1 tiebreaker with hitter and pitcher to settle a ties inning. Stealing first is alright in my book, as is fans catching a foul ball counting as an out.

However I’m not too keen on no walks, or no butting. Walks are part of the game, as are intentional ones that don’t seem to take a while to finish and add time to the game. Same with bunting. It’s not done a ton, but is part of the game and when used correctly is good strategy. I’d also say isn’t it fun to watch a hitter race down the line to try and beat one out? Or the squeeze play at the plate?

I really want to see how this game works with these rules. While I feel like some of them could be implemented, I think a couple need to be shelved. Though good for them trying something new and fun.
