Bad Christmas Movie Trivia

Despite making millions at the box office, Jingle All The Way is generally viewed as a bad movie. There was an extra scene after the end credits that teased a sequel, but knowing how much people seemed to dislike the movie, most studios recognized that making one would add up to losing money. That is until 2018 (22 years later). One was made by WWE studios, a production company that isn’t exactly known for their great movies, nor for money making movies. Larry the Cable Guy plays the lead role.

I’ll Be Home for Christmas, though known for being a bad movie, is also known for being one that many people watch for nostalgic reasons—especially if they were a child of the 90’s. The one cool thing the movie has going for it is a scene that shows Jonathan Taylor Thomas’ character passed out in the desert. The scene mirrors, in perfect attention to detail, the scene in The Lion King (1994) where young Simba is passed out in the desert. And, of course, JTT voiced the young Simba in that film.
No one will argue that out of 4 movies in the franchise, only the first 2 Home Alone films are good. According to IMDb, the fourth one (widely accepted as the worst one) was supposed to kick off a TV series. But the reception of the movie was so bad they decided to kibosh the idea. This year when you’re sitting around the Christmas table with your family, take a moment to be thankful for this.
Santa With Muscles
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964) is considered one of the worst films of all time according to many published movie books, articles, and websites. However, it holds two admirable distinctions: 1) it accurately predicted the existence of the US Space Force, and 2) it is the very first movie to ever portray a Mrs. Claus.

One of the last movies Peter Boyle appeared in before his death was The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (2006). He was in the first movie as Scott Calvin’s supervisor, but then appears in the next two as Father Time.
Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas won “Worst Picture” at the annual Razzie Awards, making it the first Christmas movie to win that award.

Deck the Halls
Congratulations Deck the Halls. This is your week.
And the Oscar goes to…
Best Actress:
Jamie Lee Curtis as Nora Krank in Christmas with the Kranks
Best Actor: Nathan Lane as Uncle Albert in The Nutcracker: The Untold Story
Best Quote: “I want my house to be seen from space!” – Danny DeVito as Buddy Hall in Deck the Halls
And it’s Christmas Eve. I probably should have had this theme earlier in the month so that a Dec 24th post would be a little more festive. Either way, Merry Christmas everyone!
