Backtrack (2015)

Director: Michael Petroni
Starring: Adrien Brody, Jenni Baird, Bruce Spence
A psychotherapist has nightmares and sinister visions. Ghosts? Is it more than his daughter’s death causing this? He returns to his childhood home and dad to put things to rest.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen a movie with so many twists and surprises. Just when you think you’re starting to know what’s going on, the film hits you with another twist – and its awesome!
Adrien Brody is well cast as psychotherapist Peter Bower, who is still battling to come to terms with the loss of his daughter. One day, a young girl named Elizabeth Valentine waits for him in his office. She is mysterious and doesn’t speak, and then runs away, but over the course of the next few nights she visits him again.
Soon after, Peter realizes there is more to his other clients than meets the eye. His friend, Duncan (Sam Neill), who referred the clients, also suddenly seems mysterious. Haunted by a tragic incident from his past, Peter decides to confess what him and a friend, Barry, did when they were teenagers. He leaves his depressed wife behind and goes to his hometown of False Creek, where his Dad still lives. Ghosts from your past will come back to haunt you, as Peter discovers…
‘Backtrack’ is the type of film where saying too much will result in spoilers. For this movie, though, I don’t want to do spoilers. This is a film that keeps the viewer glued to the screen, and on the edge of your seat. There are many creepy moments, and highly effective jump scares. Some scenes literally left me with a chill down my spine!
I thoroughly enjoyed ‘Backtrack’. It is well paced and there truly never is a dull moment. This film just gets better and better towards the end, with a very good climax.
Would I watch it again? Yes!
